Training & communication

Adapting to climate change means learning to use locally available bio-sourced building materials. Embracing the energy transition means adopting a different approach to the "mainstream". On this day, we'll be taking you through the various materials involved in using hemp: water and lime. We'll follow specific steps to prepare the mixture, and then try our hand at applying it after analysing the surface we're using. So get ready to get your hands dirty, and don't forget to dress for the job!

At a time when the renovation of buildings has become a priority in the face of ongoing climate change, older buildings deserve special attention: it is vital to preserve their architectural quality and heritage when carrying out renovation projects. During the day, we will look at the various sources of damp in buildings, and then present the principles of external insulation. We'll also be talking about floor insulation, with a particular focus on capillary rise. And because the best way to understand is to see, we'll be taking the time to wander around the city to look for things to do with moisture management.

Our built heritage is a feature of our landscapes and villages, and an integral part of our lives. Who hasn't marvelled at an imposing farmhouse that has withstood the harsh climate of our region, or admired a bell tower overlooking a village? Over the course of the day, we'll take the time to explore the history of our region's heritage, before looking at examples of architectural and thermal renovations using the 6 Rigelian values, a veritable tool for analysis and decision-making. We will then carry out in situ analyses, based on nearby buildings. Finally, we will end the day with a description of the usual work carried out on old buildings, focusing on the points of attention in the various works to be carried out.

In collaboration with the Office cantonal de l'Energie (OCEN) of the canton of Geneva (GE), which is supporting the historeno project on the Swiss side, HEIG-VD and AJENA led a round-table discussion in May 2022 on the training issues surrounding the energy renovation of buildings, in particular buildings with heritage value in our town and city centres, as part of the Assises Européennes de la Transition Energétique (European Conference on Energy Transition) in Geneva. The following link presents the topics discussed at this workshop.
